In a targeted security operation, elements of the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (SEDENA) arrested Edgar Valeriano Orozco, alias "El Kamoni", in the state of Michoacán. Authorities identify him as a prominent regional chief for the Tepalcatepec Cartel and a key operational collaborator of Juan José Farías Álvarez, known as "El Abuelo."
Federal authorities confirmed that Orozco was actively sought for extradition by the United States government on drug trafficking charges. US authorities had previously offered a reward of up to 3 million dollars for verifiable information leading to his location and capture.
"The arrest represents a significant blow to the operational structure of organized crime in the region," officials noted during the initial reporting.
Following the successful apprehension in Michoacán, military forces transferred Valeriano Orozco directly to Mexico City. He has been placed at the disposition of the Fiscalía General de la República to process his legal status and initiate the corresponding judicial procedures regarding his international extradition request.
